The Federal Government has earmarked $54 billion to re-energize the US Semiconductor Industry to begin the process of increasing the domestic share of the global semiconductor fabrication capacity. As a part of this effort, $11 billion is targeted to support Research and Development. It is important to note that universities have a role to play in this effort, but perhaps the most critical step in the process is the translation of research to a manufacturing process. That is why it is crucial to have industry involved in the research from the start.
The universities will also be the training grounds for thousands of new employees who need to be ready to work in industrial foundries. Training programs will be optimized with valuable input from our industry partners to provide the starting point for a skilled workforce.
The structure for the new organization is not fully defined, however we get more information from the Department of Commerce and other funding agencies on a frequent basis. We believe there will be request for proposals (RFPs) for one to three Manufacturing USA Centers sometime in 2023. Regardless of the RFP, the MASH coalition is up to the task of providing a compelling case for research funds.
We invite you to partner with MASH and be among the first companies to hear how the talent and research products from this high-powered regional university coalition can help you grow your business in the domestic semiconductor market.
